Perth Observatory Moonlit Night Tour

Come and explore the breathtaking night sky with our impressive collection of telescopes. Our knowledgeable volunteers will guide you on a grand tour of the most captivating celestial wonders in the Southern Hemisphere, including nebulas, dying stars, enormous star clusters, and the Moon and planets when visible.

Moonlit nights are when the Moon is one of the observing targets. The best detail on the lunar surface is seen around the half-moon phase. Star clusters and bright nebulae will also be visible.

In addition, you can delve into the wonders of the universe at our museum, where you can discover historical instruments, a meteorite exhibit, stunning astrophotographs and artwork. Be sure to marvel at the beauty of the Atlas Coelestis, the first-ever Star Atlas printed in 1729, created by the legendary John Flamsteed, the First Astronomer Royal at the Greenwich Observatory in Great Britain.

Astronomers consider winter the best time for viewing the southern skies, as the cold weather provides clear conditions to observe planets and the galactic centre passing overhead, revealing many deep-sky treasures that may not be visible in the summer.

Tour dates for August:

  • Friday 4th
  • Friday 25th
  • Saturday 26th
  • Sunday 27th
