How to join NAG PDF Print E-mail

How do you join NAG?
Please send me an e-mail (link below) with your name, e-mail address, and suburb.  You also need to include your ASV membership number! I will confirm your placement (or not) pending available places.
If you are still waiting for your ASV membership application then I can usually confirm your details with the Membership Secretary. Please advise when you submitted your application.

You must be a current member of the ASV when joining the New Astronomers' Group (NAG). For I anyone considering joining please have a good read of the "What is NAG" page before applying. It answers a lot of frequently asked questions.

I actively discourage members from just turning up to NAG meetings unannounced. You must enroll so I can prepare the NAG folders, include course material, set you up on the e-mail list for NAG items, confirm your membership, etc...

Current Intake status    [as at 06 Feb 2010 ]
Feb 2010   [Full... Closed]
May 2010   [Open... Taking bookings]
Aug 2010  [TBA]
Oct 2010   [TBA]

When can I join NAG?

There are four Intakes per year in Feb, May, Aug, and Oct. The Intake is a special meet, greet, and Astronomy basics night before joining the regular NAG meetings.

Where/When is NAG?
Meetings are held as the ASV Lodge (clubrooms) once a month in the evening from 7:30-10:30pm. For those interested in joining I can advise which night the meetings are held by e-mail. Full details of the Intake meeting will be sent out 3-4 weeks before each Intake meeting.

ASV membership has many benefits other than joining NAG. Most people soon find out the many other sections, and a calendar full of events/activities. Indeed they start discovering new interests they didn't know existed.

Hope to see you at NAG one day, all members are most welcome to join us.

February Monthly Meeting Date: Wed. 10th February, 8pmVenue: National Herbarium, Birdwood Ave., MelbourneGuest Speaker: Dr Allie Ford (Monash University)Topic: Is Anybody Out There?- For as long as humans have walked the planet, the question has been asked "Are we alone in the Universe?". Recent missions such as Cassini-Huygens and Messenger are increasing our understanding of our own Solar System, while Kepler, HARPS and SIM Planetquest are discovering new planets and planetary systems around other stars almost daily. We are also making significant advances in our understanding of life and the varied places it can exist, so we are better placed than ever to begin to answer this question. Allie will also introduce the field of Astrobiology (which was unheard of a decade ago), as part of a non technical and easy to understand presentation in an attempt show us where we are in answering this most profound question. All are welcome, there is no cost and supper is provided. Looking forward to seeing you there.Special Reminder: The ASV Library is now open following the meeting, as well as the usual opening prior to the meeting.Perry Vlahos, President
